Which alpine lodge suits your group?

Snow-covered timber lodges of Lima Alpine Lodges in sunshine, with mountain ridges in the distance

Lima Alpine Lodges is one estate in Sauerwald, in the Gerlitzen Alps in Carinthia: four cabins and one house, each with a sauna and a fireplace. The five are not interchangeable. They differ in size, in age and in how close you are to the slope, so the useful question is who is coming.

Two families, or one big group: Almhaus Gertraud and Almhaus Theresia

Almhaus Gertraud, a timber lodge on a meadow among spruce trees, with picnic benches and a barbecue in front

Almhaus Gertraud and Almhaus Theresia are natural-timber lodges on a forest clearing, facing south at 1,670 metres. Ski slopes and hiking trails start right outside the door. Each has two bedrooms and sleeps up to six.

The two can also be booked together as a double lodge for up to twelve guests, which is the answer for two families who want to share a holiday but not a kitchen.

Character first: Troadkasten Lisa and Troadkasten Matthias

Kitchen and dining area in Troadkasten Lisa, with a white tiled stove and red flowers on the table

A Troadkasten is a traditional Carinthian building that was used as a hay and grain store. Troadkasten Lisa and Troadkasten Matthias date from 1947 and were rebuilt in detail with Carinthian craftsmanship. Each has three levels and 76 m² of living space for up to six guests.

If the slope at the door matters to you, check the property page of each: that detail is stated for Gertraud and Theresia, and for the Troadkasten you should read it before you book.

Room to spread out: Almhaus Petra

Almhaus Petra, a white and dark-timber house with a glazed front, among spruce trees

Almhaus Petra is the largest of the five: 155 m² for up to eight guests, with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living and dining area, a winter garden and a well-equipped kitchen. In the basement there is a private wellness area with a sauna, a whirlpool and a solarium. Outside are a terrace and a fenced garden.

    Choosing

    • Two families, one holiday: Gertraud and Theresia together, for up to twelve.
    • A ski week for a family of up to six: Gertraud or Theresia, where the slopes start outside.
    • Six guests who like old timber and a story: one of the two Troadkästen.
    • Eight guests, and a wellness area of your own: Petra.
    • Travelling with a pet: all five lodges list pets as allowed. Read the house rules on the property page before you book.

    Winter and summer

In winter the slopes start at the door of the Almhäuser. In summer the same trails are for hiking. Gertraud and Theresia are described as easy to reach all year round.

Rates and availability depend on your dates, and each property page shows them live. All five lodges are on our Carinthia page.
